I, Rahul Dhiman pursued my Masters in Fine arts specializing in Printmaking from Govt. College of Art, Chandigarh in 2014. Since then I have been inspired by the environment and surroundings of GCA, which helped me to explore myself and my ideas with respect to art. While I was a part of my academic years and after the following years till now I have participated in many solo and group shows and exhibitions. I have also participated in various art exhibition and have won considerable awards for my work nationally and Internationally. I seek more opportunities to display my works in coming years and equally wish to contribute in the field of art in every way possible.
Art Journey
My college years were the first inspiration which has given me a new perspective through which I was able to find the beauty in everything around me. I explored different creative ways and gradually made art of everything I sketched.
Besides this, in my initial years, I had an urge to depict my daily movements in everything I drew. I started creating compositions from my surroundings which became my second motivation for subject. I also drew what I experienced through my daily routine. Varied people and their expressions always attracted me. The crowd, trains, railway tracks, railway stations, my bicycle, the sign boards and everything else that took my attention, I tried to assimilate them all in the art works I illustrated as the next encouragement.
Work and Concept
My work is highly influenced by the journey I experience in my daily life and things which capture my conscious and sub conscious mind. My Daily 58 km journey from my local to College in Chandigarh has been different in all aspects with every setting sun and has constantly inspired me with a new idea on regular basis. These three hours of my every day journey has taken on me since past 6 years and is still continuing. As I created more and more from this journey, the more it has inspired me to grow beyond and now it has become an essential part of me and my depictions.
One of my work which I sketched in my initial years “an attempt to balance life” emerged when I used to wait for train and while waiting I playfully try to balance on the empty railway tracks.
I was always attracted towards the perspective of the tracks, the illusion how they tend to meet at a single point (dot). That dot is like a target of the man which he has to achieve, a dream he has to fulfill. I depicted the signal to clear the direction of tracks and that of mind as well. I have also shown the traffic light like Red for stop, yellow Ready and Green for go which show the real struggle of life. Similarly, one of my another work “endless journey” is inspired from the trains which I see everyday coming and going. I believed that people may reach one destination but are always heading towards another and therefore the journey goes on.
In this way, my journey has ignited me with constant energy to work every day harder on my upcoming works.
